Sandra "Sandy" L. McAvoy longtime resident of Troy passed away peacefully while enjoying her final weekend at camp in Middleburgh Friday October 11th, 2024. Daughter of the late Thomas and Helen Owens McAvoy. Longtime soul mate of Jacquelyn R. "Jackie" Goldsmith.
A graduate of Sacred Heart Grammar School and later Troy High School. Sandy was a life long resident of Troy. Sandy had a long career with the State of New York in the Taxation department retiring in 2015 following a 38 year career. An avid lover of animals, Sandy enjoyed time with her beloved dog Brower and several cats throughout the years, her favorite being Rocky. Sandy will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her friends and family in the Twin Oaks Campground in Middleburgh.
In addition to Jackie, Sandy is survived by her longtime friends Lori and Rick Waterhouse, Kim Wallace - Russo, Lois Biette, and Todd and AnnMarie Mesick. Also survived by her longtime family friends Brian and Stephanie. Additionally Sandy is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and close friends.
In addition to Sandy's parents she was predeceased by her sister Jacqueline Bruce.
Family and friends are invited to visit with Sandy's family in the Daniel D. Purcell Funeral Home 510 Pawling Avenue, Troy on Thursday October 17th from 5-7pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, October 18th at 10am. Interment will immediately follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.
