Mary Kearns

Mary A. (Shaughnessy) Kearns, 82 of Schenectady, NY passed away on October 6, 2022. Mary was born in Troy, NY at St. Mary’s Hospital on December 17 to Isabel Meade Shaughnessy and George Shaughnessy. Mary’s mother passed away at the age of 23 in 1945, she and her sister were brought up by their paternal grandmother Irene Brooks Shaughnessy in Watervliet, NY. Mary attended Watervliet High School, class of ’58 and then received her Associates Degree from Empire College.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Joseph Kearns, they were lovingly married for 53 years. Mary worked for the NYS Department of Labor for 37 years as a Stenographer and then retired as a Senior Budgeting Analyst. She enjoyed participating in many sports over the years including Bocci, tennis, skiing, softball, golf and bowling. In addition to reading, she and Joe loved traveling to Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

Mary is survived by her sister Donna (Robert) Shaughnessy Smith, her sister-in-law Eleanor Klein, brother in law Donald F. Kearns, Sr. Mary was a very special Aunt to  Lisa (Bob) Smith Rokjer, Jason (Jennifer) Smith, Robbie Smith, Robyn (Seamus) Kearns Southwick, William Klein, Donald Jr (Sharon) Kearns, Marie (Bob) Kanellis, Karen (Dan) Foley, Carole (Lou) Caputo. Also many loved great nieces and nephews Danielle, Max, Jake, Amber, Matt, Derek, David, Dean, Colby, Amanda, Rachel, Kris and the late Patrick.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Spring Ave., Troy, followed by committal in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary’s name to Albany/Schenectady Salvation Army 222 Lafayette St, Schenectady, NY 12305 and/or the Capital City Rescue Mission 259 S. Pearl Street, Albany, NY 12202 would be appreciated.
