Karen M. Noon, RN, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on March 3, 1942, in Troy, New York, she was the daughter of Vernon T. Hurst and Ruth M. Pillsworth. A graduate of Troy High School and the Henry W. Bishop III Memorial School of Nursing, Karen dedicated her life to caregiving with unwavering compassion and skill.
Karen was married to David M. Noon on January 22, 1966, at Sacred Heart Church in Troy. Though their time together was tragically cut short when David passed away in 1973, their love shaped her life. She carried his memory forward as she raised their three children-Christopher, Stacy, and Kevin-with strength and grace.
Through hardship, Karen's strength never wavered. She navigated the challenges of single motherhood with resilience, creating a warm and nurturing home. A true testament to her independence, her courage, and her steadfast love.
Karen later welcomed her beloved grandchildren, Kaya Frolo (Matthew Frolo), Chloe Phillips (Donovan Johnson), Seamus Noon, and Katherine Noon, as well as two cherished great-grandchildren, Henri Frolo and Denver Johnson. She is also survived by her dear sister, Jann Joyce, who shares in the family's loss.
Karen's career spanned many roles, but she found her true calling in the emergency room, where her courage and steady presence brought comfort to countless lives. She treasured her years with Leonard Hospital, where she formed deep friendships and lasting bonds with her colleagues.
Beyond her work, Karen was known for her boundless creativity. She found joy in painting delicate Christmas tree toppers, crafting tiny keepsake boxes for her grandchildren's tooth fairy treasures, and knitting intricate Irish Afghans that her family will forever hold close. A remarkable gardener, she nurtured vibrant flowers and plants with as much care as she tended to her family, creating a peaceful haven in her backyard. She was also a skilled seamstress, crafting beautiful clothing that reflected her warmth and patience.
A devoted NBA fan, Karen spent some of her final moments with her children by her side, watching the games she loved. Though her words were few, she gathered her strength to cheer on one of her beloved players, bringing joy to those gathered around her.
For over four years, Karen's family shielded her from COVID-19, providing protection through 1,678 days until October 25, 2024. Her family stands in solidarity with all who have faced loss due to the pandemic, encouraging others to continue protecting vulnerable loved ones.
Karen's warmth, strength, and love will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and boundless love. She will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered in every cherished memory and shared story.
In accordance with her wishes, there was a private celebration of life held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness in Karen's honor.
