Christine H. Wood

December 29, 1949 — June 15, 2023

TROY, N.Y. - On June 15, 2023, Christine Helen Wood (Conroy), 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends after a valiant battle with cancer at Samaritan Hospital; the same hospital where she built a 35-year nursing career. A place she called home.

Christine was known to all who loved her as a selfless, kind-hearted and generous woman, always ready to listen, offer support and be the voice of reason in times when those closest to her needed her most.

A nurse by trade, the caring gene ran deep with Christine. She was a natural caregiver. The compassion and love she had for the people for whom she cared - both in her professional and personal life - cannot be understated or matched. As a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, friend and colleague, she leaves behind of legacy of beautiful memories and lifechanging, impactful moments that we won't soon forget.

And that was never more apparent than in her final days at Samaritan Hospital where countless numbers of former co-workers, doctors, nurses and medical professionals visited to share a kind word or story that truly reflected her years of passion and dedication.

Christine graduated from Putnam Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Bennington, Vermont as a Licensed Practical Nurse and then Junior College of Albany School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She worked for Eddy Visiting Nurses at Samaritan Hospital for over three decades.

Her boisterous laugh. Her charismatic persona. Her calm nature. Her genuine heart. Her modest and understated ways. Christine Helen Wood was truly one-of-a-kind. She never wanted recognition or the spotlight. She just wanted those around her to be happy. And we were. Always, whenever she was near.

Christine was a proud and devote Catholic. She learned early on at St. Paul's Catholic Church and School the important role her faith would play in her life. She continued her education at Catholic Central High School in Lansingburgh and she was an active parishioner most recently at Sacred Heart Church.

Christine relished in time spent with family and friends. Loon Lake was her sanctuary. Myrtle Beach was her southern retreat. The memories made in these special places will live on forever in the minds and hearts of those fortunate enough to have been a part of those unforgettable trips.

Christine was survived by the love of her life, Michael, for whom she was married for 49 incredible years, her three adoring children, Michael (Barb) Wood Jr, Marcie Wood and Nicole (Brian) Ford, as well as her grandchildren and the sunshine's of her life TJ, Justin, Taylor, Gwendolyn and Josslyn.
