Alice Cecilia McCartin Boos died after a brief illness on October 10, 2023 at The Eddy where she was surrounded by loving family and caregivers. She was born on October 12, 1930 in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of Joseph P. McCartin and Dorothy King McCartin. She attended elementary school in Pawtucket, R.I., Lowell, Mass., and Troy and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1948, after which she attended Mildred Elley School in Albany.
Alice was a young adventurer who traveled to Europe and did a stint as a ski bum before settling down. In 1964, she married her loving husband of 54 years, Richard R. Boos, who died in 2018. Alice enjoyed her many years in administrative support roles at the NYS Thruway Authority, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Hudson Valley Community College. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and she volunteered her time with many local charities, including the Friends of the Troy Public Library. Alice will be remembered by family, friends, and neighbors for her gentle kindness, her generosity and her ability to maintain an upbeat spirit in difficult circumstances.
She is survived by her daughter, Margo Derham, and her husband, Kristian Derham; two grandchildren, Cameron and Cailyn Derham; and many McCartin nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Dorothy A. McCartin and Joseph V. McCartin, and sister-in-law Marybeth McCartin.
